Health and Safety 2004

health & safety
Margaret Gowen & Company is committed to complying with the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 1989, (General Applications) Regulations 1993 and the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 1995.

First Aid
Every archaeological site requires a trained first aid officer. Therefore first aid qualifications are an asset when seeking employment in the archaeological field.

In August 2003, 12 of our staff received their Occupational First Aid (OFA) certificate for the first time and 5 staff renewed their OFA certificates in November. We also had 9 staff complete an Emergency First Aid course in June 2003.

Our first aid training was supplied by Nifast. For further information on gaining first aid certification please click here www.nifast.ie

FÁS Safe Pass Accreditation

As of  the 1st of May 2002 changes to the 1989 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act requires all personnel working on a construction site to have a basic knowledge of health and safety.

Therefore all archaeological field staff
are be required to undertake a one-day FÁS accredited Safe Pass course. (On completing the course participants are registered with the FÁS).

It is imperative when seeking employment in the archaeological field that you have this accreditation on your curriculum vitae.

For further information of the FÁS Safe Pass course content and the names of the Safe Pass instructors nearest to you please click here www.fas.ie

Since 2002 Margaret Gowen & Company has been using Shannon Health & Safety for all its Safe Pass training.  For further information on their courses and dates please click here www.shannonhealthandsafety.com
