Global Positioning Systems

Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd. uses GPS for a number of positioning applications where coordinates are required in Irish National Grid. This includes applications in surveying, geophysics and, archaeological site inspection and field walking,

Trimble RTK system

We use different systems with different levels of accuracy tailored to our specific application needs.

Where centimetre accuracy and timely results are required we employ the latest Trimble RTK systems for setting out and site recording along large scale infrastructural  projects. GPS is ideal for these applications giving accurate control where its needed without having to traverse through adjoining lands where access may be an issue.

For positioning of geophysical grids and data collection we use Trimble Pro XR receivers, giving real-time sub-metre accuracy through radio beacon DGPS corrections.

For archaeological site inspection and field walking we use Gamin handheld GPS mapping systems which allow our archaeologists to record locations of new and existing sites easily for later use in large scale mapping applications such as route selection and EIS.
