Director's Findings - Temple Bar West By Linzi Simpson
This report, the fifth in the series Archaeology in Temple Bar, summarizes recent excavations in Temple Bar West. These excavations produced exciting new evidence for the early origins of Dublin, identifying what may be pre-Viking activity at the very heart of the city. The excavation team also found evidence of what is probably the earliest Viking settlement in Dublin. The date of this settlement, AD 841, was already known but its location was not. Now, archaeologists have an uninterrupted sequence of Viking habitation stretching from this very early period all the way to the collapse of Viking Dublin in the late twelfth century.
The report is available through Temple Bar Properties.
